Initiatives

Below are just a few examples of the initiatives Leadbitter has launched to improve the sustainability of our construction sites and business.

Waste Management

In addition to implementing our industry-leading waste management plan on every project, we have implemented a sustainability toolkit to track the use of resources and maximise carbon reduction. The toolkit measures mains water usage, energy, waste, vehicle movements and the associated carbon impact. It provides an important benchmarking tool that enables us to set targets to improve performance and focus on the areas where we can make maximum improvement in carbon reduction.

Leadbitter also has a dedicated full time resource that keeps ahead of the fast paced changes in waste management, including pushing waste carriers to introduce new systems for difficult waste streams.

National Community Wood Recycling Project

Working with local enterprises that make up the National Community Wood Recycling Project, Leadbitter is reusing and recycling waste wood from our sites. In our first year working with the project, over 225 tonnes of waste timber - from only 19 of our sites - was diverted from landfill. Participation in the project is set to increase in 2012.

Member of the Green Register

The Leadbitter Group is a member of The Green Register of Construction Professionals, a not-for-profit organisation which offers expert and unbiased training on sustainable building practices to all disciplines of the construction industry.
